Kaushambi
Kaushambi is located at a distance of 50 km from modern Allahabad city
in Uttar Pradesh, India. A great deal of information about Kaushambi
is available in ancient literary records, throwing light on its political,
as well as on commercial and cultural importance.
Kaushambi was the capital of the ancient Matsya kingdom in 6th century
B.C. It was also an important seat of Buddhist learning.
Kaushambi Attractions
Kaushambi is an important tourist destination housing several old structures
and temples.
In the 4th century BC, the great Mauryan ruler, Ashoka, had built two
pillar inscriptions in Kaushambi. One of these pillars now is in Allahabad
fort (transferred by Mughals) and the other is in a ramshackle condition
in Kaushambi.
Kaushambi has several popular temples, which includes Sheetla Temple,
Durga Devi Temple, Kamasin Devi Temple, and Shri Ram Temple.
The Sheetla temple is dedicated to Sheetla, goddess of power. A large
number of devotees visit the temple everyday. The Durga Devi temple
is the venue of The Navaratri festival, when thousands of devotees visit
the temple.
Another prominent attraction is Prabhosha (Prabhashgiri) in Kaushambi,
where Lord Krishna died of an arrow. An ancient Jain temple is also
located here. Kaushambi is also linked with famous saint Malookdas,
and his Ashrama and Samadhi are located here.

By Air: You can board a flight to Allahabad and Varanasi Airport,
Uttar Pradesh, India.
By Rail: Nearest Railway Station is Allahabad.
By Road: Regular buses and private taxis run to Kaushambi from
Allahabad.
