01: Arrival (Delhi)
On arrival at the Indira Gandhi international in Delhi, you will be
met by a Taj Hub representative who will escort you to the hotel. Relax
for the remaining part of the day and brace yourself for The Northern
Shangri - La Tour.
02: Old & New Delhi
On day 2 of The Northern Shangri - La Tour, enjoy a full day of sightseeing
in Delhi. Right after breakfast, you will be taken on a tour around
Old Delhi. Visit some interesting places like the Red Fort, Jama Masjid,
Rajghat before enjoying a cycle rickshaw ride along the lanes of Chandni
Chowk. Later, proceed to visit the Birla Temple, Parliament House, India
Gate, President's House and the Qutub Minar. Also enjoy a welcome dinner
at an Indian restaurant in Delhi before retiring to the hotel for an
overnight stay.
03: Delhi - Leh
Board an early morning flight to Leh. Home to colorful gompas, breathtaking
landscapes and a friendly populace, Leh is a wonderful place to visit.
On arrival, a Taj Hub representative will escort you to a hotel. After
relaxing awhile, set out to visit the Shankar Monastery in the evening
and then proceed towards the Shanti Stupa to enjoy panoramic views of
Ladakh.
04: Leh
Enjoy a scrumptious breakfast before setting out on a visit to the Stok
Palace Museum. A part of the palace serves as the residence of the Queen
of Ladakh, while the other part has been converted into a museum. The
palace also offers breathtaking views of the Barron Mountains. The Indus
River flowing by also adds up as a wonderful sight to behold. You will
also stop at a SOS camp for Tibetan children before driving back to
your hotel. In the afternoon, you will have ample time to visit the
colorful bazaars of Leh and the fort of Ladakh. Overnight stay would
be at your hotel in Leh.
05: Leh - Uletopko
Leave for Uletopko, which is at a distance of 120 km away after breakfast.
Stop to visit the Monastery at Rizong enroute. Later, drive towards
your campsite in Uletopko. Equipped with a host of modern day amenities,
the camp promises a comfortable stay to you and your friends. Overnight
stay and dinner would be at the camp.
06: Uletopko - Lamayuru - Alchi - Uletopko
On day 6 of the Northern Shangri - La Tour, travel to Lamayuru, an ancient
monastery. Once you complete your journey through the serpentine roads
that lead to the monastery, you will come to the very top of the mountain.
Enjoy some breathtaking views of the surroundings before heading back
to Uletokpo. Enroute, stop at the Alchi Monastery that houses many beautiful
murals that date back to the 11th century. Stay overnight at your hotel
in Uletokpo.
07: Uletokpo - Leh
Set out for Leh after breakfast. You will also stop at the Pyang Monastery
and the Spituk Monastery before arriving in Leh. Check into a hotel
for dinner and an overnight stay.
08: Leh - Khardung La - Sumoor
As part of the Northern Shangri - La Tour, leave for Nubra via Khardung
La. The highest motorable pass in the world, Khadungla La is situated
at an altitude of 5800 meters above sea level. Continue with your drive
towards Numbra and check in at a campsite in Sumoor. Enjoy a sumptuous
lunch before setting out on a visit to the natural hot springs at Panamik.
Return for an overnight stay at your deluxe tent.
09: Nubra
Visit two of the most important monasteries in the region - Diksit and
Hundar. Diksit is considered to be among the oldest monasteries in this
part of the world. It is also the seat of the Dalai Lama in Nubra. You
will also stop to enjoy camel races and rides before returning to your
camp.
10: Nubra - Leh - Shey - Thiksey - Hemis - Leh
Drive back to Leh after breakfast. On arrival, enjoy a sumptuous lunch
and rest awhile. Thereafter, drive to Shey, the summer palace of royal
family. You will later drive to Thiksey where you can see the biggest
Buddha statue. Finally, you will visit the most revered and richest
monastery of Ladakh, The Hemis. Overnight stay would be at a hotel in
Leh.
11: Leh - Delhi
On the final day of the Northern Shangri - La Tour, drive to the Leh
airport to board a flight to New Delhi. On arrival, enjoy a full day
of shopping and exploring before enjoying a farewell dinner organized
by Taj Hub. Thereafter, you will be driven to the international airport
in Delhi, thus signaling the end of the Northern Shangri - La Tour.
