Southern Group of Temples comprises of Dulah Deo Temple and
the Chaturbhuja Temple.
Dulah Deo Temple, built between 1100 AD and 1150A D,
is dedicated to Lord Shiva and the sanctum enshrines a shivlingam.
There is also an image of Shiva on the lintel of the entrance
to the garbh griha. Dulah Deo Temple is a fully evolved temple,
having dimensions of 69 ft. by 40 ft (21 m by 12 m). The Dulah
Deo Temple is marked by well-developed architectural features
complete with ardhamanadap, the maha mandapa, the mandapa, the
antarala and the garbha griha with no circumambulatory passage.
The ceiling of the maha mandap is a series of diminishing circles
of overlapping stones. The superstructure of the temple has
been constructed in the traditional style, where several subsidiary
shikhars cluster around the central shikhara.
The Chaturbhuja Temple is dedicated to Lord Vishnu and
it houses a 3-m-high statue of Vishnu in chaturbhuja (four-armed)
form. The temple was built in 1100 A.D. it is one of the well-known
temples of Khajuraho. It is located about 3km from the village,
close to the Eastern Group of temples. The architectural features
of the temple a shikhara, a square sanctum, an antarala, the
mahamandapa and an ardhmandapa. The Chaturbhuja temple is the
only temple in Khajuraho, which lacks erotic sculptures, typical
of most other Khajuraho temples.
